David J. Thompson

I can help you dealing with a tax audit, a tax appeal, or preparing and filing a disclosure under the CRA's Voluntary Disclosure Program.  As both an experienced tax lawyer and accountant (CPA, CA - retired),  I assist clients with income tax and GST/HST disputes during tax audits, the filing of objections and submissions to the CRA Appeals Division, and at the Tax Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal, as well as preparing and filing disclosures under the CRA's Voluntary Disclosure Program.

I am a former CRA business files tax auditor,  former KPMG tax partner and a former partner of the McCarthy Tetrault law firm.  A founding partner in 1996 of Advocates LLP, a boutique litigation and tax law firm in London, I established an independent tax litigation practice on January 1, 2013.

Most recently a lecturer on income taxation at the Faculty of Law, University of Western Ontario, I previously taught international taxation at the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants In-Depth Tax Course; the CICA Advanced Corporate Reorganizations Course; and co-wrote and presented the Advanced Corporate Reorganizations and Advanced Partnerships training courses for the CRA.  I instructed at the Bar Admission Course of the Law Society, and have prepared and presented papers for the Canadian Tax Foundation and numerous other groups and organizations. I am a founding and current member of the London Tax Practitioners Consultation Group of the Canada Revenue Agency, and formerly a member of the Ontario Ministry of Revenue ONT-TAXS Advisory Committee.
